Internet Marketing Tips - Taking Out the Trash Day

Remember the show "The West Wing?" There was one episode, "Take Out The Trash Day." Take out the trash day at the White House is when they dispose of all those news stories that nobody really cares about. If I'm not mistaken, it's either Thursday or Friday. But that's besides the point. As an Internet marketer, I too have to sometimes take out the trash. I don't do it on a weekly basis, but every couple of months or so, I go through the process. This article explains.

Like it or not, not everything we do when it comes to marketing and running our business is going to be successful and profitable. Even I have done things that have turned out to be real dogs. Whole projects have been scrapped because they didn't bring in the return that I expected. And that is the point of taking out the trash.

You can't run your business in a fog. You must constantly keep track of everything you do. If you are running an ad campaign, you have to make sure it is turning a profit. Naturally, you have to give it some time. That's the most difficult part of taking out the trash. See, you don't want to pull the plug on something prematurely. Not everything is going to turn a profit right from the start. Some things take time. But how much time? How long do you wait before that trash starts to stink up the house?

Unlike real trash, you can't smell the Internet trash rotting away. That's why so many people will hang onto something for months and months before finally giving up. I don't have that much patience. I know that a decent product should convert at a minimum of 1%. If I don't get at least one sale after 500 hops, I'm done. I don't need to be hit over the head to see that this thing isn't going to fly. My best products convert at crazy percentages. So when I put something out there and 1,000 people haven't bought, I know I made a turkey and throw it out with the next trash day.

I will usually go through my inventory once a month. If I feel I've given something more than enough time, I chuck it...with no remorse. You can't get attached to your creations, whether they be products, ads, articles or whatever. It's business, and only the top producers will survive.

I can't tell you how often you should clean house. That has to be a decision that you yourself make. But I can tell you this much...if you don't clean it often...it WILL start to stink.

It has been found that you have to make contact with a person up to seven times before they will become a customer. That is the difficult bit, finding enough information to keep the customers interested. The best way to do this is making your emails like a course. You will notice that a lot of the successful online marketers make the emails follow on from one another and finish one email telling you that you must not miss the next email because it contains vital information. This is great but if you are going to keep it going on after that initial sale to create a repeat customer it can be a little more difficult. Yet extremely important if you have a high value back end sale.

Many markets do not lend themselves to you sending all this information and I was struggling to do this, both finding the time and thinking up fresh information. The idea I came up with was from two sources firstly a gold member inner circle marketing group I am a member of and a company in a completely different field to me. This company sent out a mug to every new customer, all it had on it was the company name. This got me thinking about what we had been talking about in our marketing group. I sent out a mug with every order. But instead of just putting our name on it I put a sales message on it and a call to action. The result was different to what I expected; I got a 75% increase of customers coming back to us. But when I asked new customers where they heard of our company they said they saw it on a mug. People were taking the mugs to work and taking them to different places where they were seen by other people who then came to us as customers.

Since then we have tried a variety of different items with different sales messages. We tried key rings but these results were not as good as the mugs, I presume because we do not keep out keys on show, but when we used items that people would use in public like coaster, water bottles etc the results were similar. The point to remember is the message you put on the item. Do not fill it with fancy logo's use the space for a sort catch sales letter with a call to action. Remember when you are looking at how to market, there are many methods out there, and some very effective ones. But remember that marketing off line to existing customers can bring in more customers, as well as repeat customers. People usually associate with like minded people. These people are likely to be in your market.

When you send items out to customers do not forget to put a sales letter in with the item. You know it will get opened and make it relevant to the item. In the past I have sent out a sales letter with a mug in the shape of a place mat to put the mug on we even put a coffee stain on it saying we were having a cup of coffee when we thought we had to send you an important offer.

10 Ways to Build Search Engine Optimization

Organic Search results appear in the non-advertising areas of the search engine results page. This is the equivalent of FREE advertising, so search engine optimization (SEO) is a very important strategy for creating a successful web site. So, it is imperative that you create an effective SEO strategy to help your web site bring you new customers. Here are 10 ways to improve your search engine optimization strategy.

1. Keywords: Develop unique keywords and relevant titles for each of your web site pages and each article or blog you publish.

2. Content: The depth of research and development applied to your content strategy will be directly proportional to the quality and quantity of traffic you receive in organic search. "Content" includes the written word, applications, widgets, tools and other digital assets.

3. Copy writing: Adding one word or phrase in the right place can increase visibility for a particular keyword. Be careful in your approach, and consider the human element, no matter how tempting it is to over-tweak.

This is the best strategy for getting search engines to crawl your site and index content.

9. Clean up broken links: Find and remove permanently broken internal links or set up properly configured 404 error page to improve crawling performance that lets engines know that the old link is history.

10. Make your pages smaller by removing common JavaScript and CSS code to external files. The files are then cached by the browser and your page loads quicker and the search engines can crawl your pages quicker and easier.

These are only a few of the many things you can do to help your SEO. They are free and if you can coordinate all of these things into your web site, they are also very effective.

5. Link to other sites and get one way back links.

Link to other high ranking sites that are relevant to your own content, this is very important. If your site is about monster trucks only link to quality sites about monster trucks. One way back links smoke, you can get these easily and for free. Just leave comments on other webmasters sites. Be sure to read their article and make a well constructed comment based on the content in front of you, no one likes a dirty spammer. I don't even think that spammers can even stomach themselves in the mirror.

6. Track performance.

This is vital to your success, track your ads by using the Google channel tool, this enables you to monitor the success of each individual ad and make small adjustments until you are onto a winner.

The Myth About High Paying AdSense Keywords

One of the most common questions that everyone asks in regards to Google AdSense is what are the highest paying keywords I can build content around? You'll find threads on this subject in various forums all the time.

Answers to this question will inevitably mention keywords such as mesothelioma, DUI lawyers, mortgage, etc. Then you'll find those high paying keyword lists floating around that include ones that have bids in the $60 range.

It sounds real good. Target some of those keywords, get your site up and rake in the cash. Unfortunately, this is a myth and doesn't work. What happens is reality is that people do this and when they get any clicks at all, they find they are paying anywhere from less than a dollar, up to $3.00 or so. That's a far cry from those $60 bids. So what's happening? Why aren't you getting $20-$30 for that click?

Search Network vs. Content Network

The first issue that many AdSense publishers overlook in using these high paying keyword lists is that the bids are almost always based on the search network. Those same advertisers are, in most cases anyway, bidding at much lower numbers on the content network. Sometimes in the $.50 range.

That's why a keyword showing bids of $20 may only pay you $.25-$.50 a click.

Keyword Targeted Site Content

In order to attract the highest paying ads you'll want to focus on creating original keyword targeted content. Be sure to also include related keywords and keep the content focused.

Never use plr content that is not rewritten to be original. Of course, no scrapped content or MFA sites.

The Real CPC Numbers

While no one other than Google knows the exact formula, through several years of testing and building sites in all types of niche markets, I've come to find that on average, you can expect to get around 20% of the average cost that advertisers are paying in the search network.

I know that doesn't sound as sexy as hearing you'll make $25 a click, but that is why these high paying AdSense keywords are just a myth.

AdSense Common Mistakes - Wrong Colors

The colors you choose for your ads are very important. Choosing the wrong colors will mean your CTR will never reach its full potential.

Colors are VERY important.

There are two main strategies you can use when choosing colors for your AdSense ads:

  1. You can blend the ads in with your site's content.

  2. You can make the ads stand out to they'll command more attention.

Both strategies have been shown to work, but the best strategy will depend on the site. There's no easy way to determine which of these strategies will work best for a particular site, so testing is important. The purpose of blending the ads into the page is to make the ads look more like part of the site. This will throw visitors off a bit, making them more likely to click the ads because they won't look so much like ads.

If you're going to do this, you'll want to set the ad's background color to the background color the ad will be placed on (usually white). Then you will make the link color the same as the other links on your site.

Additionally, you'll ideally try to set the link size and font to the same font as the AdSense ads, which will cause the ads to be even less distinguishable from the rest of the site's content.

The purpose of using contrasting colors is to make the ads really stand out from the rest of the content. This helps draw eyes toward the ads, which could result in more clicks. In this case, you might set the background color to a different color than the background it will be placed on, or you might make the text links a bold, bright color. Some people have found success making their links bright red, orange, or hot pink, for example.

Color is one area where it really pays to test, so don't get lazy in this area. You may not need to test a dozen different color schemes to find one that pulls clicks well, but you should test two different types of color scheme at the very least.

Writing Squeeze Page That Sell

Designing and creating a good squeeze page (a.k.a landing page) is essential for internet marketers who want to make real money. But how do you make a good squeeze page? Here's how:

1. Make your purpose crystal clear
A good squeeze page focused on ONE purpose - getting the visitor to buy or subscribe to a newsletter. All other features of a good squeeze page are geared to increase the likelihood of the visitor to convert.

2. Use one page for one set of related keywords.
When you're targeting multiple types of audience you *must* make different squeeze page for each one. People who visit your page come with various intentions and mindsets. By customizing and fine tuning your squeeze page for each type you can state the exact benefits of you offer for each type.

3. State the benefits in your headline
You want the visitor to keep reading your offer so put the biggest benefit there and follow up by more benefits in the sub-headlines.

Re-read your squeeze page over and over again. Does the sentences and paragraphs flow or seem like block of gibberish text mashed together.

Place the "Buy Now" or "Subscribe" button in the middle and the bottom of the page. You can also hyperlink some words like "join now", "act today" to your shopping cart/checkout. You need to do this because some people are easier to convert than others. If half of the squeeze page is enough to convert him/her then why wait until the end of the page to place that "Buy Now" button?

8. Give the reader a sense of urgency
Use a time-bound or quantity-bound offer. Don't fake it or you will lose your credibility. Tell the reader to act now or else they will miss your great offer. Another tactic is to increase the price after every 10 - 20 sales. That way the reader will hesitate to postpone buying because the price will increase if he waits.

9. Show yourself
Put your best smile on the page. You can increase your visitors' trust and conversion ratio using this method. It shows that you are a real person offering something of value to them and will cover their back when they need help.

As a coach and someone who is knowledgeable on your chosen niche, you are in the best position to tell your clients what they have to do in order to reach their goals (improve the quality of their lives, advance in their chosen careers, learn new sets of skills, etc.) Be clear with your instructions to avoid confusion. If needed, give your clients step-by-step guides with demos or illustrations so they will not get lost in the process.
