Keywords Are The Key To Success In A Home-Based Internet Marketing Venture

Reclining back in your Lazy Boy you surf the results of your new home based Internet Business once again. Ahhh, the good life. No more 9 to 5. No more bosses. No more office politics.

Then reality sets in... $1.95 for the third day in a row? Your total earnings! You can't pay rent with that, let along put food on the table. It's at this point you begin wondering if you were a bit premature in jumping ship with corporate life. Is your new business really a glorified hobby in disguise?

The answer to that question largely depends on you. And you largely depend on using the right keywords for your success.

Keywords?

Yes, keywords.

You know of your key to your car that they will take away if you don't turn things around. You also know of the key to your house with the late mortgage payment. But what in the world is a keyword, and why should you care?

A keyword (also known as a tag) is a word related to your niche that you are targeting for massive traffic to your website. For example, let's say your topic of choice is "Internet Marketing". The most obvious keyword for this topic would be "Internet Marketing".

Now before you build a website using nothing but "Internet Marketing" for your keyword you need to find out which keyword has the greatest supply and demand. Two tools that accomplish this are WordTracker & SEO Elite. Both are good, I personally prefer SEO Elite.

Continuing with our example, after running a check you find that the best keyword to use is actually "Internet Marketing". And you should indeed build some of your web pages with a target for this Keyword.

Most people stop at this point. And it's a shame. It's like they found the first speck of gold in a gold mine and are too lazy or ignorant to continue the dig. That's why I personally recommend incorporating HitTail.com. They will take your keyword and provide back data of people who are currently actively presently getting to your site with what are called long-tail keywords.

A long-tail keyword is not unlike a normal keyword except that it is, you guessed it, long. So if your keyword is "Internet Marketing" they will tell you through the course of time that someone actually found your site using the keyword phrase of "Successful Internet Marketing From Paris". You can then choose to create a keyword campaign (articles, video, PPC, and the like) around "Successful Internet Marketing From Paris" or wait for another long-tail keyword that suits you better.

Whatever you decide. Keywords done right are indeed one ingredient that will make the difference between a lobster dinner and one of bread and water.

8 Low-Cost Advertising Ideas

Despite what you may have heard, advertising doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. In this article, I'm going to give you eight low-cost advertising ideas. These ideas can be used for both online and offline businesses.

1. Article Marketing is far and away my favorite method of promoting my business. If you write articles and allow them to be freely published, your articles become viral, meaning your articles can actually spread like a virus and have the potential to be viewed by hundreds of thousands of Internet users.

2. Targeted ezine advertising is one of the most cost-effective ways to promote your business. For example, you can purchase an ad in DEMC for around $50 and reach 36,000 people. For a list of suitable ezines to advertise in, visit BestEzines.com

3. If done properly, Google AdWords is still a very cost-effective way to advertise your business, despite rising pay-per-click costs.

4. Advertise in local neighborhood newspapers. In some areas they're called "Pennysavers," and in other areas they're simply known as "shoppers." Whatever they're called, you can place your ad in front of thousands of eyeballs for as little as $10 a week.

5. Buy television ads on local cable TV. Cable tv ads are cheaper than you might think, and you can target your ads to run in specific parts of your city. Check with you local cable company for more information.

6. Advertise on high-traffic websites. There are many websites that will allow you to advertise your products and services on their websites very inexpensively. Visit AdBrite.com for more information.

7. Advertising in a local direct mail package like Valpak can also be very cost-effective. And since you'll be sharing an envelope with other local businesses, you'll pay a fraction of what it might cost otherwise. For more information visit Valpak.com

8. Participating in online forums is an excellent way to get the word out about your business - and it's free. To find a forum related to your particular business, just go to your favorite search engine and type in the kind of forum you're looking for. For example, if you sell dolls, you would type in "doll forums." And if you sell real estate, you would simply type in "real estate forums."

The Shocking Truth About Internet Marketing And Why Most Fail

Make millions by working 15 minutes a day while in your pajama's!

We've all heard that before, right?

Since the conception of the internet, savvy marketers have been preying on the average Joe trying every shady tactic in the book to get him to pull out his credit card. The story ends the same just about every time. Joe is now the proud owner of a hyped up worthless product that ends up collecting digital dust on his hard drive.

All joking aside, there are many people making a legitimate full time living in the internet marketing business, and I'm not talking about only the so called internet gurus and scam artists. Unfortunately, the cold hard facts show that 90% of all those that attempt internet marketing end up failing. There are many reasons why this is so and I am going to go over some of the most common ones.

1. Too Much Information

The internet is the information highway. It is truly amazing when you stop and think about it. Ask me a question about anything and within minutes I can have information for you by looking it up on the internet. This actually creates a stumbling block for internet marketers because unfortunately, the internet marketing highway is stretched 1,000 lanes wide with multiple exits and cross-town traffic everywhere. The bottom line is there is just too much information for any one person to digest when entering the marketing field. Everyone has the next great way to make money online, whether it be blogging, article marking, affiliate marketing, Squidoo, MySpace, Facebook, pinging, forum marking, email marketing, etc. This is a very big reason why most newbie's fail at internet marking. It's simply a case of information overload.

2. Lack Of Focus

Lack of focus actually goes hand in hand with too much information. What happens with many new marketers is because there is so much out there and so many distractions, they end up jumping from one technique to the next and quickly lose focus. They get frustrated and end up giving up. The simple solution to this problem is to pick one technique to get involved in and focus all attention to it. Basically, one needs to become a master in one arena of marketing and needs to tune out all other distractions.

3. Failure To Take Action

Failure to take action is another big mistake as to why internet marketers fail. It becomes a snowball effect. Because there is too much information and because they can't seem to focus on any one strategy, the easiest way out is simply to do nothing. Many beginner marketers end up spending all their time looking for the next big thing and wind up wasting their time and money with nothing to show for it.

By no means am I trying to deter anyone from getting into the internet marketing business. When done properly and with a focused system in place, it can be a very rewarding and lucrative way to make a living. Again, the key is to pick one technique to focus on and devote all your time and energy to that one area and stop at nothing until you've reached a level of success that your satisfied with.

People Like to Look Good and Don't Like to Look Bad

People like to look good

People don't like to look bad

These two phrases underpin most people's behavior in life and are especially relevant in advertising and usability/ information architecture.

The other day I was sitting in a park which had a drinking fountain in the middle. Now this drinking fountain has quite the reputation as the water stream is way too powerful and when people drink from it, they get a squirt in the face.

I sat on the grass in anticipation, waiting for someone to come and cop the money shot. I was soon rewarded by a businesses man dressed in a nice charcoal suit, with a big round face providing more than adequate surface area to be splashed. He put his face down to the metal (first mistake) and then turned the water on. A powerful stream of water came out like a firehose all over his face, and all over the top of his suit.

He jumped back in horror and his first reaction was to look around the park to see if anyone was looking. I was of course and I laughed, fairly uncontrollably. He had been made to look bad and he tottered off shaking his head and cursing the fountain. It's like when people trip on a crack as they're walking on the pavement and they try to cover it up by doing a little jog "hey, I meant to do that". Or else they look behind them at the pavement as if to say "who's the idiot who put a crack there". You my friend, are the idiot.

We exist in a state of equilibrium, and when that is destabilized, it is possible to undermine someone and make them look or feel bad/stupid. This is the basis to great comedy like Commedia d'Arte and is the reason why we love Funniest Home Videos and The Chaser's War on Everything.

People hate to look bad and when they do, they react with anger, embarrassment and shame.

So how does this relate to the digital world?

It's the reason Apple invests so much in usability testing. When I pick up the iphone (which is damn sexy) I know exactly how to use it, and it makes me look good. When my mum asks me to show her how to use her Samsung phone I struggle and it makes me look bad. It makes me look stupid and I think Samsung phones are stupid.

The catch phrase to web usability is Steve Krug's line "don't make me think". I'm sick of seeing self serving agency websites which are supposed to show the creativity of the agency, but are so difficult to navigate and find information that I feel stupid when browsing them. In my opinion, people won't be impressed by the form if they can't work out the function. Be creative with web design, but don't detract from the usability.

The same is true with social networks. Facebook took off because when you go to Facebook, it's easy to work out what you are suposed to do. I find Twitter fairly intuitive too which is why I use it over Plurk which I find has a daunting interface. Plurk probably has better functionality, but ease of use will win over technology most of the time.

This extends to virtually everything - when I walk into a shop, I want to find things easily or I will get frustrated and walk out feeling like an idiot - like when I go into trendy Sydney shops and can't tell the girls jeans from the guys and the shop assistant laughs at me (though that warrants another rant on the state of masculinity).

When building websites, writing copy, concepting campaign ideas or even pitching an idea in to a client - make them look good and don't make them look bad. If you squirt water in their face they will go somewhere else. Another website is one click away, and once you make someone look bad, it's hard to turn them the other way. Whether online or off, test your assumptions rigorously against these two catch phrases:

Are you going to make your users/target audience look/feel good or are you going to make them look/feel bad?

Internet Marketing Tips - Don't Insult Your Prospect's Intelligence

What you're about to read is a true story. You can't make stuff like this up. After reading it, I don't know what your take on it is going to be but in my mind, this is just insulting your prospect's intelligence. Some might not see it that way, and that's fine. But to me, if you want to be taken seriously as a marketer, this is not the way to do it. I'm not going to mention any names in this article, but when you read it, you will probably figure out the site I am talking about.

I belong to a solo ads club where we get credit for viewing other members' solo ads. Anyway, this morning, just before I am actually writing this, I got to this one solo ad that had the subject line, "Grab A Cash Pig". At first I thought to myself, "Are you kidding?" Certainly this was a joke. Well, I always read all my solo ads because I want to get my credits so that I can send my own solo ads. Anyway, I clicked on the link and the first thing I am greeted to on the page is a photo of a pig holding what looks like a bag of money.

Now, the graphic alone wouldn't have made me think the site was so bad, even though it was a start. But then I took a look at the rest of the site and it looked like a third grader put it together. No offense to third graders. I sat there for a moment and tried to figure out what this person was thinking when he put this site together. I mean, does he really think that people have so little intelligence that they'll sign up for this thing? Is that what this world has come to?

Now I know that some of you might be thinking that something like this is cute and not such a big deal. However, we're talking about making money online. This isn't a game and it's not an amusement park. If I'm going to get myself involved in a biz op, which mind you I don't believe in anyway, I'm at least going to sign up with something that at the very least looks legit. This was the most horrible looking site I have ever seen. What person with any intelligence would go for it?

If you're going to put together a biz up for people to get involved in, please put together something that at least looks professional. And if you're thinking of joining one of these, please at least join one that doesn't look like something out of a Mickey Mouse cartoon.

The Real Truth About Make Money Products

Well, I figured that since I was in a real truth frame of mind these days, I'd tackle make money products in this installment of my real truth series. Today, you're going to find out exactly what the deal is with these products that promise that you'll make all this money online IF you follow their steps. And I'm talking not only about the bogus ones but the legit ones as well. Yes, there IS a real truth that you better know or you're in for a world of hurt and disappointment.

Let's start with the bogus products first, which are the get rich quick ones. You know the ones I'm talking about. They're the ones with the headlines that read something like "Make $30,000 In 30 Days...Guaranteed!" Okay, first of all, if you see any headlines like these, the sales page is in violation of FTC regulations which state that you cannot make any income claims on your sales page. So these people are flying under the radar and are eventually going to get shut down anyway.

But even for the legit pages that don't make specific claims but hint to the possibility that you can make a ton of money fast in your sleep, this is just not so. It won't happen. Running a business online takes hard work and a lot of time. There is no easy and quick way to riches. I am speaking from experience.

Okay, but what about the legit products like mine. I don't make any crazy claims. I even show proof of the income that I've earned...BUT! Yes, there is a big but coming. See, while I may have made that money, what you don't see is all the hard work and time that went into making it. You see the end result. And people want to think that this end result will happen quickly. It will not. I have been working online for over five years now and it took me a long time to get to where I am today. It did NOT happen overnight.

So when you got to these sales pages, even the legit ones, and they tell you that you'll learn everything you need to make a living online, please understand that it's not going to happen in an instant.

To YOUR Success,
